Meet Dawson Smith, a Clarksville High School senior who's proving you really can do it all. Smith just earned Student of the Week honors after a week of community voting, and when you hear what he's been up to, you'll understand why people are talking about him. He pulled in 5,979 votes—68% of the total—and his story is one worth celebrating.
A Student Who Does It All
Picture juggling three sports, keeping straight A's, leading a school club, and still showing up for your community. That's a regular week for Smith. He maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average while taking some of the toughest classes his school offers—Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses that are actually college-level work.
Sonja Chilcutt, a counselor at Clarksville High School, says Smith is the kind of student who challenges himself and never backs down from hard work. And he's doing all this while playing football, basketball, and baseball. That means he's competing year-round, staying in shape, working with teammates, and representing his school on three different fields and courts.
On top of that, Smith serves as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club, bringing students together and creating a space for leadership and connection.
More Amazing Students Making Clarksville Proud
Smith wasn't the only student nominated this week. Three other local students are doing incredible things, and their stories deserve some spotlight too.
Elise Moreau from Middle College is crushing her academic goals. She recently jumped her ACT Reading score by 10 points—a massive improvement that shows serious dedication. Principal Kemberly Hass says Moreau is the kind of student who goes above and beyond every single day.
Sophia Miller, a sophomore at Northeast High School, is excelling in her Health Science pathway and lighting it up as an athlete. Her teacher calls her a role model who genuinely enjoys learning new things and helping classmates understand tough concepts. Miller brings great energy to everything she does, and it shows.
Jerry Wiles, a senior at Northeast High School, might be the busiest student you'll ever meet. He's in Drama and Speech/Debate, takes AP classes, works a job at Chuck E. Cheese, plays in the Marching Band, competes in three events at speech tournaments, and stars in school plays. His speech teacher, Meghann Shoulders, says Wiles makes it his mission to welcome new students and get them involved in school activities. He's a connector who makes everyone feel like they belong.
Why These Stories Matter
When students like Dawson, Elise, Sophia, and Jerry step up and show what's possible, it lifts the whole community. These aren't just kids earning good grades—they're leaders, athletes, artists, and friends who are shaping what Clarksville looks like today and tomorrow.
